The knockout stage of the Lightning Singles was played on Saturday July 15 with eight players vying for the title.

In the quarter finals Irene Martin made Peter Bird work really hard for a narrow win. Martin started slowly but managed to fight back to tie the first set. After a good start she looked in control of the second set but Bird hit back to force another 4 all draw. In the tie breaker Martin held two shots before Bird snatched a last bowl win.

In the other quarter finals John Monks defeated Rose Farrington 2 sets to nil. Denise Lidbury prevailed over Pater Macdonald with the same score line while Alan McLeod also had a 2 -0 win over Ivan Balentovic

Both semi finals were very close. Alan McLeod played Denise Lidbury and won the first set 4 – 2. He was able to hold off Lidbury by forcing a tie in the second set to claim a place in the final. John Monks and Peter Bird had a very tight match. Bird picked up 3 shots on the last end of the first set to force a draw. After racing to a 5 – 1 lead in the second set Bird could not hold off a strong finish from Monks who won the game with a 6 – 5 win in the second set.

The final between Monks and Mcleod was another good, close battle but Monks played some excellent bowls to win both sets by 5 – 3 and therefore grab the title and the major part of the prize money.
